Description

The Director of Machining provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the company’s machining function. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, continuous improvement, and long-term growth across both Manufacturing Engineering and Machine Shop Operations.

The Director partners closely with Quality, Operations, and Executive Leadership to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production while meeting customer requirements and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, and Supervisors.
• Establish long-term machining strategy aligned with company goals, capacity planning, and capital investment.
• Drive a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Collaborate with executive leadership on operational planning, budgets, and performance metrics.
• Oversee process development, CNC programming, tooling strategy, fixturing, and work instruction creation.
• Ensure manufacturability of new products through early design reviews and cross-functional collaboration.
• Monitor and improve shop floor performance using KPIs
• Oversee equipment maintenance, capacity utilization, and scheduling effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• 10+ years of experience in machining or manufacturing, with progressive leadership responsibility.
• Proven experience leading both manufacturing engineering and shop floor operations.
• Strong technical knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and materials.
