FULL SALARY RANGE: $26.60 - $38.02 per hour
ANTICIPATED HIRING SALARY RANGE: $26.60 – $32.31 per hour Commensurate to Experience
Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to ensure completion of scheduled preventative maintenance,
perform safety inspections, diagnose, and perform mechanical repair of small engine equipment
including two/four cycle gasoline, diesel-powered, battery-powered, and alternative-powered
equipment. Perform skilled labor involved in the maintenance and repair of parks, turf areas,
landscape areas, open spaces, ball fields, right-of-way, and trails to ensure these areas are safe,
available, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. The position also participates in snow and ice control
activities; operates heavy construction equipment; and directs a crew of seasonal or temporary
workers in the performance of varied duties.
As a municipal organization, Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some
emergency situations, including weather-related emergencies, may necessitate Greenwood Village
employees to assist in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employees’ specific
job function, but which will be within the physical capabilities, training, and skills of the employee.

Essential Mobility Functions:
The physical requirement of this position includes heavy manual labor requiring a full range of
physical motion including sitting, standing, walking, manual digging, pushing, pulling, twisting,
turning, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, crawling, and reaching for
objects; talking to and hearing customers on the telephone and in person; manual dexterity for
use of office equipment and manual hand tools; lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
A. Mechanical Responsibilities
Inspects, troubleshoots and diagnoses mechanical, electrical and hydraulic defects in
all small engine and battery-powered equipment.
Performs minor and major equipment repairs including replacing component parts,
small engine rebuilds, and tire repair and replacement, which involves equipment lifts
and commercial machinery.
Performs preventive maintenance on small-engine equipment.
Conducts field service calls when equipment fails on a job site. Repairs equipment on
site or coordinates how to get the equipment back to the shop for repair, coordinates a
replacement piece of equipment when needed.
Reads and interprets blueprints, schematic wiring diagrams, hydrostatic and hydraulic
systems, and associated components.
Coordinates, schedules, and transports equipment to outside vendors for repair using
a truck and trailer.
Performs various types of welding and plasma cutting activities associated with
equipment repairs and varied tasks and/or projects while keeping all associated
personal protective equipment maintained and in good working order.
Serves as subject matter expert on small engine equipment, answers questions and
trains others on the safe and proper use of small engine equipment.
Stays current on new small engine equipment, accessories, and equipment options.
Attends training opportunities for both small engine repair and maintenance, and
turf/parks maintenance. This includes obtaining certifications to complete warranty
work on small engines and/or professional turf maintenance certificates.
B. Administrative Responsibilities
Maintains history of maintenance on all small equipment including hour/mileage
usage, and schedules subsequent preventative maintenance with user groups.
Maintains parts inventory including purchasing, tracking and stocking necessary parts
and shop supplies.
Assists with small engine equipment replacement plan.
Assists with the small engine program budget including collection of data; researches
and makes recommendations for equipment purchases; prepares bid specifications,
purchases equipment and tools; makes/ tracks credit card purchases.
Operates computer programs necessary to perform research on equipment manuals,
service manuals, parts breakdown diagrams, schematics, and vendor contact information.
Communicate with dealer and service representatives to maintain positive relationships
to ensure productive outcomes.
C. Miscellaneous Duties
May oversee or assist a turf and landscape crew; mows turf grass, fertilizes, aerates, sod
or seeds, overseeds turf, performs trash duties, mulches, sprays associated herbicides,
and performs other crew tasks when required.
Obtains, maintains and uses all personal protective equipment and keeps it in good working order.
Assists in identifying turf grasses, native grasses, weeds and other problems associated
with turf management, and notifies appropriate crewmembers of the problems, offers
assistance and suggestions to remedy the problem.
Operates heavy construction equipment including loader, backhoe, skid steer and dump truck.
Removes snow as necessary using City snow removal tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Completes special projects for other service areas within the Parks, Trails, and
Recreation Department or other departments.
Position must be able to operate the wide variety of equipment utilized by the Parks,
Trails, and Recreation Department and Public Works Department; various hand and
power tools and light and heavy-duty equipment; tools necessary in the diagnosis and
repair of small engine equipment; a computer and a variety of software.
Primary internal contact is with users of equipment to coordinate maintenance, repairs,
and discuss current issues with equipment, as well as for future needs. Primary external
contacts are with equipment or material suppliers and citizens.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge of:
Basic principles and practices of inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of small engine equipment.
Equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of parks.
Principles and practices of sports turf management.
Techniques of parks and streets maintenance equipment operation.
Shop tools and equipment used in repairs.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Troubleshoot and diagnose problems and causes, and repair small engine equipment.
Work individually and as a team.
Accurately prepare work orders and other necessary forms.
Prioritize, plan, and schedule work with Supervisor and fellow Maintenance Mechanic.
Take proper safety precautions by using personal protective safety equipment.
Read, understand and maintain SDS sheets that are associated with small engine repair and maintenance.
Operate construction equipment.
Operate modern office equipment including a computer and a variety of software, including equipment diagnosis programs.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for successful job performance.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Two years of small engine and/or equipment repair experience.
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in
equipment maintenance and repair or any combination of experience and training that
would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to qualify.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within 180 days, an appropriate, valid class "B" commercial
driver’s license, in accordance with Colorado Law, and a driving record satisfactory to obtain
coverage by the City’s insurance carrier.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to a variety of adverse weather
conditions, odors, and other potentially hazardous environmental conditions. Will need to work
professionally with City staff and general public for purposes of completing assignments. Will work
with a variety of light and heavy-duty equipment to complete assigned tasks. This position may
involve working a variety of schedules, including evenings and weekends and may be subject to
work beyond normal scheduled hours.
