- Industrial Machine Repair Mechanic / Repairperson
Description
Industrial Machine Repair Mechanics and Repairpersons perform preventative maintenance on and repairs to Milwaukee Water Works (MWW) equipment and facilities, operate snow and ice control equipment, and perform routine duties at outlying booster stations.
The names of eligible candidates who successfully complete the selection process will be placed on the highest-level eligible list for which they qualify.
Industrial Machine Repair Mechanic 3
Preventative Maintenance
Perform or assist with preventative maintenance on small engine equipment, such as snow blowers, lawnmowers, chainsaws, generators, auxiliary lights, air compressors and weed trimmers.
Perform or support maintenance of centrifugal pumps, fence operators and air compressors.
Set up and break down coagulation equipment and perform flushing of coagulators.
Perform cleaning of fountains and the surrounding area.
Perform preventative greasing of equipment with the proper grease type.
Obtain and process oil samples for pumps.
Facilities and Machine Repair
Perform or assist with complex repairs, equipment installation and replacement, and troubleshooting electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and automation systems and equipment.
Repair sample lines near instrumentation points, pipe up to 2”, chemical (diaphragm and peristaltic) pumps, coagulation air circulation blowers, gate operators and air compressors.
Repair or replace ball valves and gate valves up to 3”.
Perform Arc (Stick) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding to repair facilities and equipment.
Perform or assist with minor adjustment of gland packing.
Perform routine tasks at booster stations.
Use machine tools to fabricate and install shelves, brackets, guards, bushings, safety equipment and various parts.
Obtain or assist with obtaining vibration and runout readings on equipment.
Other Maintenance and Repair
Assist with priming pumps and oil changes.
Assist with the repair of chemical pumps, threaded pipes and fittings, building appurtenances, storage facilities and various drive train equipment.
Perform or assist with the setup and break down of fountains, perform chemical testing, and make dosing adjustments.
Support crew leaders in gathering information about equipment condition trends.
Assist Steamfitters in the construction and repair of piping systems.
Assist Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Steamfitters with cleaning of equipment and filter/belt changes.
Support Automation personnel and Municipal Service Electricians with troubleshooting of the control system.
Assist Plants Operations with the installation and removal of water gates.
Assist with the cleaning and repair of ozone contactors.
Perform Confined Space Attendant duties using multi-gas detection meters and radios
Perform inspection of confined space safety equipment.
Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and perform audits on equipment.
Industrial Machine Repair Mechanic 4 and Industrial Machine Repairperson 5
Facilities and Machine Repair
Use machine tools to fabricate and modify shelves, brackets, guards, bushings, and safety equipment.
Inspect, adjust, and replace gland packing and set to acceptable operational leakage specifications.
Preventative Maintenance
Install and remove water fountain pumps and associated piping, perform daily chemical tests, and perform cleaning of fountains and the surrounding area.
Prime pumps and perform oil changes.
Perform preventative greasing of equipment with the proper grease type.
Obtain and process oil samples for pumps, reviewing test results for potential issues.
Crew Leadership
Develop a scope of work, identify resources needed, establish a work schedule/timeline and provide daily progress reports for special projects.
Lead crews to set up and break down fountains, obtain vibration and runout readings on equipment, and clean and repair ozone contactors.
Perform Confined Space Attendant duties using multi-gas detection meters and radios.
Propose new and alternative solutions based on current technology available.
Develop lifecycle reports on various assets and use the CMMS to compile information and determine trending conditions.
Train Industrial Machine Repair Mechanics and collaborate with Steamfitters, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Steamfitters, Automation staff, Electrical & Instrumentation staff, and Plant Operations staff on preventative, correct and demand maintenance activities.
Industrial Machine Repair Mechanic 4
Facilities and Machine Repair
Perform repairs to chemical pumps and feed systems, small engines, gear cases, drive lines, threaded pipes and fittings, drivetrain equipment, building appurtenances, storage facilities and various other industrial equipment; repair or replace sample line pumps.
Perform shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) to repair facilities and equipment.
Upgrade and or repair sample lines near instrumentation points and pipe up to 3” in diameter.
Assist with the inspection, repair and replacement of valves of multiple types up to 4” in diameter.
Assist with the investigation and troubleshooting of issues with pumps larger than 50 horsepower (HP).
Assist with cleaning and repair of ozone contactors.
Preventative Maintenance
Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs to centrifugal pumps and booster station equipment.
Inspect, repair and perform preventative maintenance on industrial equipment, such as gates, coagulators, flocculators, access hatches, centrifugal pumps and fence operators.
Assist with repairs and preventative maintenance of air compressors.
Industrial Machine Repairperson 5
Facilities and Machine Repair
Perform repairs to centrifugal pumps, chemical pumps and feed systems, engines, gear cases, drive lines, threaded pipes and fittings, building appurtenances, storage facilities, booster station equipment and various other industrial equipment.
Perform SMAW, GMAW, gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and oxy-acetylene welding to repair facilities and equipment.
Upgrade and or install new sample lines near instrumentation points and pipe of all diameters.
Install flow meters and water quality analysis equipment.
Inspect, repair and replace valves of all types and sizes.
Replace gland packing and set to acceptable operational leakage specifications.
Investigate and troubleshoot issues with pumps larger than 50HP.
Preventative Maintenance
Inspect, repair and perform preventative maintenance on industrial equipment, such as coagulators, flocculators, access hatches, centrifugal pumps, fence operators and air compressors.
Requirements
Industrial Machine Repair Mechanic 3
Associate degree in manufacturing, construction or a related trade from an accredited college, university, or trade school AND one year of experience performing industrial machine repair, maintenance, adjustment and installation duties closely related to the essential functions listed above;
OR
Three years of experience performing industrial machine repair, maintenance, adjustment and installation duties closely related to the essential functions listed above.
Industrial Machine Repair Mechanic 4
Associate degree in manufacturing, construction, transportation, or related trade from an accredited college, university, or trade school.
AND
Two years of experience performing industrial machine repair, maintenance, adjustment, and installation, one of which must include MIG welding, service of pumps larger than 50HP, leading repair crews on special projects, providing training and other duties closely related to this position.
Industrial Machine Repairperson 5
Associate degree in manufacturing, construction, transportation, or related trade from an accredited college, university, or trade school.
AND
Three years of experience performing industrial machine repair, maintenance, adjustment, and installation, two of which must include GMAW, GTAW, SMAW or oxy-acetylene welding, service of pumps larger than 50HP, leading repair crews on special projects, providing training and other duties closely related to this position.
All titles
Valid driver's license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Forklift and Skid Steer Loader Operator certification within the probationary period and throughout employment.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Industrial Machine Repair Mechanics and Repairpersons must be able to:
Perform duties related to custodial work and snow removal.
Climb ladders, enter confined spaces and wear confined space safety equipment.
Lift and handle at least 50 pounds of equipment or material and more weight with assistance.
Work at heights up to 100 feet, in confined spaces, in proximity to hazardous chemicals, in all weather conditions and with high noise levels.
Wear appropriate safety equipment, including safety shoes, glasses, and hearing protection.
Work mandatory overtime and respond to emergency call-outs when needed.
Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions for extended periods.
Possess good manual dexterity.
