Compensation
Shift: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Some overtime required.
Hourly Pay Range: $27.20-$32.00
This is a skilled labor position working to install, repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment. The job requires that the employee be able to work safely and follow safety rules. Employee must be dependable, able to follow instructions and directions, according to established operating procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The hourly job classification system for the Johns Manville Ruston, LA Facility Maintenance Mechanic is based on a progressive structure. Job classifications and pay levels are based upon demonstrated skill sets.
Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
Wears all personal protective equipment as required, including but not limited to protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator
Must know, understand, and perform all plant and departmental safety regulations and procedures and immediately reports any hazardous conditions
Performs safety observations and complete training assignments
Must know and understand company policies, regulations, and procedures regarding employee conduct and attendance
Excellent attendance, attitude and motivation must be demonstrated to advance to the next level
Expected to perform duties with direct guidance as needed
Assist other maintenance personnel as needed
Troubleshooting by use of testing equipment and other measuring techniques
Manage down time by coordinating with production department personnel on routine preventative and predictive maintenance techniques
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hand and power tools
Make adjustments to functional parts of equipment and control systems
Fabricate repair parts using shop equipment (welding equipment, cutting equipment, machine tools)
Maintain and test Boiler, CO2 House, Air Compressors, and plant critical systems
Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, and cooling for process systems
Replace Indurator O-Rings and mold car bearings
Replace and/or adjust oven door cables
Repair and/or replace limit switches
Responsible for operating in conformance with the ISO certifications held by the Ruston facility
Familiarity with Preventative and Predictive Maintenance
Responsible for execution of MRO work orders which includes entering into SAP
Ability to effectively communicate mechanical issues when troubleshooting equipment/issues for internal customers
Required to respond to call ins and work the call in request
Must have own tools
Performs other duties as directed
Education and/or Experience and Skills
Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school (preferred) or one-year certificate from college or technical school; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Mechanic job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certifications accepted in lieu of experience
Certificates include but not limited to
Mechanic license or equivalent work experience
Welding certificate or equivalent work experience
Lathe certificate or equivalent work experience
Forklift, Diesel Mechanic certificates or equivalent work experience
Machinist certificate or equivalent work experience

Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven. Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. The manufacturing process involves toxic or caustic chemicals. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes steel toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection in certain areas may be required to where dust masks, respirators, or head protection.
