This position is open to the general public and to all current city employees covered under the terms of the City's collective bargaining agreement with the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BRIDGE, STRUCTURAL AND REINFORCING IRONWORKERS, Local 1 (BU #46).
Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under general supervision, inspects architectural and ornamental ironwork, structural steel construction, and related installations to ensure compliance with the Chicago Construction Codes, and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Inspects architectural and ornamental ironwork, as well as structural steel construction, to ensure compliance with applicable provisions of the Chicago Construction Codes.
- Inspects structural steel construction for new buildings and existing structures undergoing rehabilitation to verify compliance with approved construction plans, permits, and code requirements.
- Examines welding, rigging, and bolting to ensure adequacy, structural integrity, and compliance with applicable Chicago Construction Code requirements.
- Inspects structural steel columns, beams, and related components for proper reinforcement, material condition, and overall structural safety.
- Interprets and explains applicable Chicago Construction Code requirements to contractors, engineers, property owners, and other stakeholders to support compliance.
- Performs inspections of scaffolding, exposed metal, tanks, iron porches, and similar structural elements and appurtenances.
- Issues code violations, documents noncompliant conditions, and conducts re-inspections to verify corrective action has been completed.
- Prepares inspection reports and maintains accurate records of findings, violations, and enforcement actions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
* Must be able to access (climbing ladders and stairs) multi-level buildings and work sites, including roofs and basements, to conduct inspections with possible exposure to noisy, dusty, or wet environments in all weather conditions and in all neighborhoods throughout the City* .
Additional duties may be required for this position
Location: 2045 West Washington Blvd.
Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience
• Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered iron worker apprenticeship training program and journeyman status, OR
Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are acceptable.
o Successful completion of an industry or company-sponsored apprenticeship training program as an iron worker and have two (2) years of work experience as a journey-level iron worker
o Five (5) years of journey-level work experience as an iron worker
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, or OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Ø A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.
