Maintenance Fabricator

OVERVIEW:
The Maintenance Fabricator is responsible for performing high-quality fabrication, welding, and mechanical repair work to support plant maintenance operations. This position ensures equipment reliability through skilled craftsmanship, adherence to safety standards, and precision fabrication practices. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently to support continuous improvement, safety, and production goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow all safety requirements and promote a safe work environment for self and others.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of plant safety and environmental policies and procedures, performing all work in compliance with established standards.
- Maintain high quality and workmanship standards in all assigned tasks.
- Apply various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Arc, etc.) for fabrication and repair purposes.
- Interpret prints, drawings, plans, and job specifications to perform accurate fabrication and welding.
- Conceptualize projects from written or verbal instructions and produce drawings as needed.
- Operate metalworking equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and surface grinders.
- Accurately measure materials using standard and metric measuring tools.
- Select and utilize appropriate hand and power tools for each project.
- Perform bench repair and rebuild of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
- Conduct layout, fitting, and installation of screwed or welded piping systems and components.
- Perform structural repairs on equipment, tools, and components using approved methods and materials.
- Plan, layout, and fabricate tools, components, and assemblies per drawings or functional requirements using common materials (metals, plastics, etc.) and methods (welding, bolting, etc.).
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on plant and manufacturing equipment following documented procedures.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
- Take initiative to identify and implement improvements in materials, methods, or processes that enhance reliability and profitability.
- Complete planned jobs, ensuring proper resources, materials, tools, and methods are gathered prior to starting work.
- Train and mentor employees in fabrication techniques and safe work practices.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals to support operations and maintenance personnel training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Shift Team Leader or Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Two-year technical degree in Industrial Maintenance or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience:
- 58 years of combined mechanical, welding, and fabrication experience.
- Foundry maintenance experience preferred.
- High mechanical aptitude with the ability to use various hand and power tools.
- Demonstrated precision work within tight tolerances.
- Basic understanding of electrical principles.
- Proficient in assigned welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Arc).
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including weld symbols.
- Knowledge of wire and filler materials for various alloys (steel, aluminum, etc.).
- Working knowledge of fixturing and weld setup parameters (amps, volts, etc.).
- Experience using conventional and precision measuring instruments.
- Proficient in welding equipment maintenance and finish grinding applications using manual and power tools.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently:
- Standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping
- Lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 75 lbs
Occasionally:
- Overhead work
- Climbing ladders or stairs
- Operating forklifts and cranes
