Position Overview
The Materials Manufacturing Engineer will join the manufacturing team to develop state-of-the-art surface coating solutions. This role focuses on Hardide® low-temperature CVD tungsten carbide coatings, recognized for outstanding wear, corrosion, galling, and fatigue resistance. The position offers unique opportunities to work with innovative coating technologies that support critical global industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Support customer technical requirements during project initiation and First Article Inspections.
- Develop and maintain work instructions and manufacturing processes for different coating products.
- Evaluate material properties to meet strict industry and customer specifications.
- Contribute to the design and selection of tooling, fixturing, and gauging for manufacturing processes.
- Improve processing capabilities by applying continuous improvement methodologies.
- Oversee equipment upgrades, modifications, and automation initiatives.
- Conduct materials characterization and performance testing using advanced analytical techniques.
- Model and optimize material process flow to enhance on-time delivery.
- Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations for coated parts and substrates in coordination with the UK Engineering team.
Requirements
Qualifications
- US citizenship is mandatory.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Knowledge of surface treatment processes.
- Experience with 2D and/or 3D CAD software.
- Proficiency in materials characterization techniques such as SEM, XRD, EDS, and microhardness testing.
- Familiarity with applications in aerospace, oil & gas, semiconductor manufacturing, or precision engineering.
- Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for customer and stakeholder engagement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Proficient in metals and materials science.
- Expertise in manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, non-destructive testing (CMM, solution pH, and conductivity testing), and mechanical testing (tensile strength, hardness, porosity).
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Experience in AS9100 and NADCAP accredited environments.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, technology-driven settings.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask with meticulous attention to detail.
