Ensure that the processing and packaging equipment is properly maintained to maximize reliability, safety, and to minimize or eliminate any adverse effect on processing, packaging, and storage of frozen fruit.
Responsibilities
Primary Accountabilities:
Tech Level I
Has knowledge of basic concepts, practices, and procedures within fresh to frozen food processing and packaging. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision and primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
- Understands the hazards of ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems.
- Assist operations in changeovers.
- Monitor and record system information as necessary, report any abnormal conditions, and ensure proper communication across shifts.
- Perform assigned preventative maintenance, repairs, and rebuilds on all associated equipment as assigned by supervisor. Identify damaged or defective equipment and repair it in a timely manner.
- Perform proper Lock-out/Tag-out procedures when working on equipment.
- Perform basic welding and fabrication assignments from mechanical drawings and sketches.
- Diagnose, analyze, investigate, and correct basic causes of malfunction of production and plant equipment.
- Install, maintain, and repair wiring, lighting, and electrical equipment. Work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and verbal instructions.
- Safely use test equipment such as ohmmeters, volt meters, amp meters, power factor meters, power tools, and electrician hand tools.
- Keep work areas clean, neat, and orderly.
- Other duties that are reasonably associated with the above functions of the job.
Tech Level 2
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures fresh to frozen food processing and packaging. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks and works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Perform welding and fabrication assignments from mechanical drawings and sketches.
- Diagnose, analyze, investigate, and correct common causes of malfunction of production and plant equipment.
- Guide and assist Tech Level I technician in basic maintenance and fabrication techniques.
- Guide and assist Tech Level I technician in basic electrical/safety & troubleshooting techniques.
- Able to properly use conduit bender, threading tools, and soldering iron.
- Isolate systems of all potential energy and hazards to ensure proper Lock-out/Tag-out for maintenance work.
- Provide maintenance and troubleshooting support AC/DC motors and controls, check-weighers, X-ray and metal detection systems, and product coding printers.
Tech Level 3
Familiar with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures of fresh to frozen food processing and packaging. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Directs and leads the work of others. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Lead others effectively and coordinate work and ensure job duties are completed.
- Act in Supervisor's role in their absence.
- Diagnose, analyze, investigate, and correct all/most causes of mechanical malfunction of processing and plant equipment.
- Able to train Electrician and Mechanical Technicians on equipment and system function.
Qualifications
Experience, Knowledge, & Skills You Bring:
Tech Level I
- Electrical safety training
- Basic working knowledge of electrical components used in processing and packaging systems like transformers, motors, motor controls, instruments, electrical protection devices.
- Furnish and use hand tools normally expected of electrician/mechanical technicians.
- Ability to obtain working understanding of a CMMS system. Document work completed, assign time and parts to proper WO.
- Good working knowledge of conveyor systems, packaging machinery, pumps, gear reduction boxes, dicers, and other processing machinery.
- Must work well under pressure and always ensure safe performance.
- Must demonstrate cooperative behavior with co-workers, supervisors, and management.
- Working knowledge of GMP's within a food manufacturing facility.
- Fork-lift and Aerial Lift license.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Basic computer navigation or HMI, CMMS, access procedure folder on network, and E-mail proficiency.
- Demonstrate color proficiency.
- Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret equipment schematics, drawings, manufacturer's literature, and technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and managers.
- Must be able to attain Tech Level II at the end of their 6th year of being in maintenance department.
- Must pass CPR course within first year of hire date.
Tech Level 2
- Tech Level I for 3 years minimum to acquire experience and proficiency.
- Knowledge and proficient use of electrical and controls calibration and testing tools
- Working knowledge of electrical components used in processing and packaging systems like transformers, motor, motor controls, instruments, electrical protection devices.
- Arc Flash and Electrical Safety Training Class (Off Site Class ad will be issued CAT ll PPE Upon Completion)
- Strong mechanical knowledge of various components used in cold storage, food processing, and facility equipment.
Tech Level 3
- Tech Level II for 3 years minimum to acquire experience and proficiency.
- High Voltage training (Off Site Class)

Education & Certification:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to pass job specific Physical Ability Test (PAT).
- Must be able to work in temperature range from 30 to 50 degree Fahrenheit.
- Noise produced by manufacturing machinery up to 92 decibels.
- Must be able to climb stairs, vertical & inclined ladders up to 20 ft daily.
- Must be able to do repetitive movements of bending, reaching up to 24" overhead and forward up to 30", squatting, pushing, and pulling an average weight of 10-30 lbs.
- Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds with a carrying distance up to 5 ft.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time on concrete and/or metal grating.
- Requires climbing, standing, kneeling, crawling, lying on back and/or stomach, stooping, twisting, lifting, and other physical movements at times within craped quarters to perform job
- Flexibility to work different shifts and day when required.
Work Environment:
- Industrial plant environment with related noise and temperatures.
