Reporting to (as per organization chart): Supervisor
Qualification requirements for the position
- A recognized course of welding from a reputable welding school.
- 3–5-year experience in pipe manufacturing or Heavy engineering company is preferred.
- Knowledge in Welding basics, Weld defects, gouging and Gas Cutting Techniques.
- Can read & interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
- Proficiency in oral and written English communications.
- Must have valid welder qualification for AWS D1.1 or ASME Sec ix
Responsible for:
- Maintaining a high level of focus on health, personal & environmental safety and ensuring safety within all welding activities. All PPEs must be wear during work in a plant.
- Pipe body repair and pipe weld seam repair by welding process shall be carried out only after approval of QC department.
- Preheating and Inter-pass temperatures shall be checked out for any pipe to be weld repaired in strictly conformance with applicable repair WPS.
- Repair welding shall be carried out in accordance with approved (qualified) repair WPS for base metal I weld seam.
- Use the Electrode or wire or any other consumable as per repair WPS.
- Repair welding shall be carried out by manual SMAW or GMAW or FCAW process.
- Ensure calibration of welding equipment at periodical interval.
- Welding consumable test certificate shall be verified as per ASME section II Part-C
- Only certified SMAW electrode shall be used after proper baking (If applicable).
- Baking the SMAW electrode in the holding / baking oven for 180 minutes at minimum temperature of 300°C and then electrodes shall be hold at temperature of 150°C all time.
- Any circumstances the SMAW electrodes shall be not mixed by other classification or sizes.
- For repair welding, the quantity of electrodes to be used shall be transferred to a portable oven with setting temperature of 70° C.
- During repair welding, the portable oven should be kept nearest of repair point and partial used electrode should not be reused.
- After completion of repair welding of the pipe, a data entry to be made in weld repair book.
- All discarded Electrode & Grinding Wheel to be handed over to Stores for disposal.
- Any stock pieces should be inspected and repaired immediately, the end spray painted yellow and final length communicated to cut of operator.
- During down time or coil splices any pipe put to the side should be completed, if there is none then any scrap should be cut up.
- Report all unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor immediately.
- Follow all quality procedures for handling welding consumable.
- Safe operation of conveyors and overhead crane after proper training and guidance from Supervisor.
- Always be on time for your shift to relieve the previous shift and communicate any changes or problems.
- If you know you are going to be late or not at work, notify management as soon as possible to allow them to make arrangements to cover your shift.
- Keep the area clean and free of garbage and trip hazards. Put all tools and lift devices back in their proper place.
