The Role: Sensus, a Xylem brand, seeks to hire an EHSSS Intern. This position supports critical safety and environmental process, programs, and procedures in order to achieve a zero-injury and NOV environment. The successful candidate applies technical abilities to engage employees at all levels of the organization in order to sustain world-class safety and environmental processes. The position reports directly to the Senior EHS Manager, Sensus N.A.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • The position provides student opportunities to learn and apply Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) principals within a production environment
  • Coordinate and manage day-to-day activities to meet all EHS standards established by applicable law or regulation
  • The student will be given projects centered around EHS
  • Run environmental reporting (waste & energy), identify improvement opportunities and implement them
  • Continuous participation in trainings related to EHS topics
  • Coordinates and communicates with other departments as needed to support team objectives
  • As a member of the EHS team, assist the EHS Manager to promote safety awareness for safety issues/concern to include developing and distributing communications and follows up to ensure corrective or preventative measures have been implemented
  • Maintains EHS files and records
  • Perform other duties and projects as requested and assigned by the EHS Manager
  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Light lifting (20-25 lbs.), office environment
  • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend, and move about the facility
  • Regularly required to listen, talk to, and see employees on a daily basis
  • Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.
  • Manufacturing floor: work performed within manufacturing production areas such as assembly lines, fabrication, welding, etc.
  • Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Currently attending a four year accredited bachelors program 
  • Exposure to environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety disciplines
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future
  • Must be working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety or an equivalent degree from an accredited university
