Description

This career level press manufacturing engineer must be capable of working autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Skilled in equipment/tooling alternatives along with sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines, and facilities necessary to manufacture parts.  Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as independent judgment.

As a Press Manufacturing Engineer for the Press Center, you would be responsible for working with other team members on problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives on daily basis. You will influence the requirements, design, development, analysis, testing and control of engineering projects related to Stamping Press equipment where creativity and initiative are involved as well as some independent judgment. You will also be required to provide technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specific engineering objectives both at supplier build shops and stamping facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues and suppliers to develop and integrate solutions for press systems in stamping plants.
  • Manage process engineering, OEM suppliers engineering & fabrication
  • Perform complex design analysis of mechanical systems
  • Prepare engineering estimates and performance specifications for obtaining press system engineering service contracts
  • Prepare engineering estimates for fabrication & installation of press systems and related equipment
  • Responsible for design and development of new press lines or modifications to existing press systems
  • Prepare project milestone schedules for equipment fabrication & installation
  • Provide field engineering support throughout equipment installation, start-up, de-bug, and acceleration phases
  • Travel to fabrication & integration shops and plant sites as required to ensure fabrication & installation requirements are met
  • Provide technical support for installation & start-up press systems and related equipment
  • Provide technical support for training of plant personnel
  • Monitor project progress to schedule & develop strategies to meet targets & provide management reports
  • Review shop drawings to ensure compliance with technical specifications and maintainability & quality objectives
  • Coordinate field changes & prepare appropriate documentation
  • Attend contractor & Plant meetings as required to maintain project coordination
  • Monitor contractor to compliance to GM safety standards
  • Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods, and manufacturing improvements
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Participates in stamping plant continuous improvement activities

Home location of job is located out of Warren, MI.  This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.  Work may be completed remotely (i.e.: plant, supplier, home, etc.) as required to be successful.  Execution of site-specific projects will require travel to multiple stamping facilities within North America. Travel could be up to 50%.

Required Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Experience in manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, or engineering

  • Understanding of Microsoft software including MS Project
  • Ability to use CAD systems (ie. AutoCAD, Unigraphics, SOLIDWORKS, Teamcenter, Teamcenter Visualization, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • 10-15 years’ experience in manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, or engineering
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree (Mechanical, Electrical and/or Computer, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, or Computer Science)
  • Experience in related STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) field
  • Preferred alternative … Applicable Journeymen’s Card or related manufacturing experience
