Pay Range:
$65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year depending on experience
General Purpose:
Oversee and train staff, serving as the acting facility leader in the absence of the superintendent and assistant superintendent, managing assigned projects and coordinating contractors, and maintaining high standards for shop organization, cleanliness, and equipment care.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
1-3 years of mechanic experience
Knowledge of small engine repair or automotive
Must have excellent mechanical and problem-solving skills
We will train the right candidate if they have no reel grinding skills
Knowledge of hydraulic systems
Must be highly motivated, goal-driven, and a self-starter
Must be able to work alongside an assistant mechanic
Responsibilities:
Maintain a working knowledge of agronomy programs and schedule of events
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot components such as pressure relief and reduction valves, pumps, filtration equipment, pump motors/drives, and communication systems associated with the water delivery for the property
Maintain a preventative maintenance program on all equipment, purchase repair parts and replacement supplies; place orders for parts/supplies as needed for equipment or service and track expenses and inventories for budget purposes
Inspect, adjust, diagnose and repair mechanical defects in many types of golf course maintenance equipment
Perform mower grinding/sharpening and general overhaul of motors, reels; install and adjust braking systems
Perform machining or welding work in making fittings used in repair of maintenance equipment
Maintain records of preventative maintenance, repairs made, and parts ordered
Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus
Diagnose mechanical troubles and schedule appropriate preventative maintenance work
Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible
Help to control costs and expenses in the maintenance of the equipment fleet relating to parts purchases, inventory levels, service work, fuel inventories and related items
Aid the ongoing hiring, training, and coaching of staff
Aid the course lead in the proper winterization of the golf course
Manage seasonal staff during the absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
Manage department members that may include but are not limited to: Assistant Mechanic(s), greenskeepers, and equipment operators
Incorporate safe work practices in job performance
Perform other duties as required
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms
The employee is often required to stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend and kneel for hours at a time without sitting
The employee frequently is required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, crawl, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
Moderate exposure to all working elements
Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception
Noise level is typically loud
The employee will be expected to work extended hours during golf and holiday season
The employee will be expected to work weekends and holidays
