The Mechanic shall perform the inspection, diagnostics, maintenance and repair of city-owned vehicles, heavy equipment and mechanical assets. Work generally includes preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, fabrication, and installation of specialized equipment to ensure safe and reliable, and efficient operation of the fleet.
Requirements
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of an accredited technical training program in automotive or diesel repair is highly preferred and may substitute for a portion of required experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience repairing medium and heavy-duty gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles and equipment.
Minimum of two (2) years of welding and metal fabrication experience (MIG, stick welding, cutting torches).
A combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Certifications and Licenses
Possession of a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Group B with Air Brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.
ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certification preferred.
Two (2) year certification in heavy truck maintenance preferred.
