This position will report to the Manager of NDT Processes and will ensure through evaluation, training, and oversight that non-destructive testing (NDT) activities are performed in compliance with AAR, FRA, company, and customer requirements.
The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to perform training, testing, oversight and technical performance evaluations of personnel at various repair facilities.
The incumbent will follow established programs and procedures in the qualification and certification of personnel and inspection of company and customer-owned equipment.
The incumbent is to act as a technical resource for the North American RBU.
The incumbent will perform training and certification, revision and creation of procedures, work instructions, and manuals and implement the tools necessary to ensure shop compliance and efficiency.
The incumbent will assist with annual internal quality assurance, AAR, FRA, and other compliance-related technical audits.
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the technical performance, training and certification of shop technicians and inspectors remains in compliance with AAR, FRA, internal and customer requirements.
The incumbent will perform root cause analysis and development of corrective/preventive actions for NDT related matters as well as investigation of customer complaints and audit findings.
The incumbent will develop a knowledge of UTC procedures/standards, AAR/DOT regulations, customer procedures, and other technical areas such as tank car repair practices, NDT requirements, inspection, welding, tank car parts/components, and coatings, and Service Equipment.
The incumbent will also oversee the implementation of new techniques or methods at various repair facilities meeting deadlines and ensuring the facility is fully capable of utilizing these new techniques or methods for tank qualification and railcar inspection activities.
Requirements
High School Diploma required; Technical / post-secondary education a plus.
Evidence of current or previous centralized or employer-based certification to Level-II equivalent in UT or ET methods is required.
Centralized, or employer-based evidence of performance-based qualification to perform PAUT (UT), TOFD (UT), or ACFM (ET) is required.
Experience with autonomous, semi-autonomous or manually controlled (robotic) inspection data gathering systems is a plus.
Certified or eligible for certification - ASNT NDT Level III certifications: LT, PT, MT, VT, UT, IR, or ET.
Must possess a basic understanding of and ability to proficiently operate basic computer hardware (tablet, PC, handheld and embedded platforms) and gain operational proficiency of new software within reasonable timeframes.
Must be certifiable to the requirements of American Association of Railroads, MSRP C-III, Appendix T.
Knowledge of air brakes, service equipment, welding, coatings, and other special processes a plus.
Understanding of and the ability to apply the Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for tank car qualification.
Understanding and the ability to apply the product requirements of tank car owners.
