This position is responsible with supervising the production jet mill operations and R&D pilot plant at the WDII facility along with leading the site facility maintenance activities. The incumbent directs and coordinates the activities of the Union personnel and is responsible for meeting safety, quality, and productivity requirements for the site. The incumbent works directly with Process Development, Material Control, QA/QC, Maintenance, EH&S, and Contractors to support any problems that arise. This requires close and frequent collaboration with teams located at both the main West Deptford site and the Wayne, PA facilities.
Your responsibilities:
- Ensure that the pilot plant and production areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition and that safe operating practices are maintained.
- Build and maintain a strong/diverse team through effective training, coaching, and supervision of all direct reports.
- Directs Bargaining Unit Employees to ensure a cohesive work force through administering all company and contract rules.
- Works with staff and other colleagues towards improvements in facility safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Ensure that team processes, procedures and documentation are in compliance with the requirements of the Quality Management Systems (IATF16949) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) prescribed to by the site.
- Initiate and evaluate new procedures and projects to ensure manufacturing goals are met or exceeded.
- Lead the site preventative maintenance activities to improve plant efficiency and prevent downtime.
- Lead routine and support capital projects aimed at facility improvements or developing/enhancing process capabilities from the pilot scale through to mass production.
- Leverages knowledge of pilot plant and small-scale manufacturing processes gained through hands-on experience, in rapidly responding to and troubleshooting problems as they arise.
- Initiate and evaluate new procedures and projects to ensure manufacturing goals are met or exceeded.
- Ensure the effective utilization of all raw materials and equipment.
- Liaison with Process Development, Material Control, QA/QC, Maintenance, EH&S, and Contractors to support any problems that hinder production.
- Carry out or take on any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
- Small scale samples and R&D support
- Supervise staff to ensure they have both the means and ability to prepare material samples as described in experimental plans, and to applicable specifications.
- Collaborate with internal customers (scientists, engineers, technical program managers, etc.) to assist with and clarify technical requirements and specifications for material sample requests.
Requirements for the role:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical discipline, or any equivalent relevant combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- 2+ years' chemical processing or manufacturing experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on orientation.
- Proficiency in various software programs including MS Office applications.
- Knowledge of general chemistry and strong math skills
