Company History
Company History
Beginning with the purchase of Toledo, Ohio’s historical Acklin Stamping Company in 1999, and continuing with the acquisition of Deerfield Manufacturing in 2001, Grenada Stamping and Assembly in 2005 and Ronfeldt Manufacturing in 2008, Ice Industries has taken advantage of new business opportunities throughout North America – delivering products to our customers in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.
Less than two months before this plant’s slated closing in 1999, Howard Ice and select associates purchased Acklin Stamping from Tecumseh Products. With the implementation of work-rule changes and a team-oriented environment, the Ice team quickly acquired new business and won back many previously outsourced product lines. With this acquisition, Acklin Stamping remained an integral producer of welded compressor housings for the HVACR market and subsequently expanded into several other markets.
In February 2002, Ice Industries acquired Deerfield Manufacturing in Mason, Ohio, a short distance north of Cincinnati and minutes from three Interstate highways. This acquisition complemented Acklin’s capabilities within the compressor market. With a change in management philosophy and a concerted effort to both improve quality systems and secure QS9000 and TS-16949 status, Deerfield Manufacturing has become a premier supplier to the markets it serves.
The acquisition of Grenada Stamping and Assembly was completed in March of 2005. This visionary acquisition was in response to the growing automotive manufacturing presence within the southern United States region. The facility's long history of stainless steel wheel covers was discontinued, and the business transformed with the addition of several large presses and tandem lines. Ice’s largest and most diverse plant continues to grow to this day, with new customers in new markets.
Ice's acquisition of the assets of Ronfeldt Associates was completed on February 29, 2008. The company’s Mexico facility was a green field plant, which first started production in 2005. The impetus of this facility was to serve the HVACR market with large compressor shell production. With the acquisition of Ronfeldt, Ice has filled out its offerings with mechanical and hydraulic press, welding and assembly capabilities for multiple markets.
In October of 2009, Ice completed the purchase of select air tank manufacturing assets from Truck Equipment Manufacturing Company located in Charlotte, North Carolina and from Quest Mfg. located in Springfield, Missouri. Ice installed and began fabrication of air tanks on these lines in our Grenada, MS facility in the fall of 2009. In addition to our ability to form, weld, assemble and leak test air tanks in our Mississippi location, Ice also began the manufacture of purge tanks in its Mexico location.
