Ironworker duties and responsibilities

The main job of an Ironworker is to build, reinforce and repair iron and steel structures in accordance with design parameters. Some specific job duties you may wish to include in your Ironworker job description are:

• Studying and analyzing blueprints, diagrams, schematics and work orders to understand what must be completed
• Unloading, stacking and arranging iron and steel materials at worksites
• Measuring and cutting components to the correct length
• Bending and shaping elements to ensure a precise fit
• Aligning beams and welding them in place to build structures
• Inspecting work in progress to ensure quality
• Keeping tools and equipment clean and maintained
