As part of the Crosby team, you will be supporting channel partners and end users around the world using Crosby products in mission-critical applications ranging from renewable power development, space exploration, national defense, manufacturing, and infrastructure development.
The L-Group Leader directs, supervises, and coordinates machining, forging, welding, painting, and/or assembly operations. This role supervises a crew of 20 to 30+ team members involved in the production, finishing, and assembly of the Company's products. The Group Leader is responsible for safety, quality, production quantity, manufacturing costs, meeting production schedules, and on-time shipment of product lines.
Responsibilities
Work under the direction of the Value Stream Manager or Manufacturing Manager.
Ensure crew members are performing their jobs safely and using the appropriate PPE.
Conduct monthly inspections of assigned work centers.
Participate in monthly safety meetings.
Conduct investigations of accidents and/or incidents.
Supervise team members involved in machining, forging, welding, finishing, and/or assembly operations.
Maintain responsibility for quality, quantity, economical manufacturing costs, production schedules, proper material usage, and efficient workflow consistent with manufacturing objectives and profit goals.
Organize and assign work to crew members to best utilize available skills, knowledge, experience, man-hours, machines, and tooling.
Analyze and diagnose machining and tooling problems, machine malfunctions, and related production issues to coordinate corrective actions and prevent excessive downtime.
Coordinate maintenance activities with the Maintenance department.
Provide instructions and guidance to team members.
Monitor setup procedures, machining operations, finishing work, and/or assembly procedures.
Coordinate inspection and quality control activities with the QA department to ensure finished goods meet Company and customer standards.
Complete corrective action request forms when issues need to be addressed.
Provide information and coordinate with engineering, production, scheduling, purchasing, and other departments to support new programs, work simplification, cost reduction, new tooling and methods, man-hour planning, scheduling, machine repair, and maintenance.
Expedite hot orders and redirect resources and personnel as needed to meet shipment dates.
Coordinate with Production Control and dispatchers regarding workflow and order sequence.
Interview external candidates, conduct job visits, and make employment recommendations.
Coordinate with Purchasing on requisitions for tools and supplies.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience.
35 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to work 3rd shift from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Willingness to work overtime as needed.
Strong understanding of safety practices, PPE requirements, and production standards.
Ability to lead, coach, and direct a crew of 20 to 30+ team members.
Ability to work in both office and shop environments.
Comfortable with frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting, and working around shop noise, fumes, vapors, dust, and other manufacturing conditions.
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience supervising a union workforce preferred.
Experience in machining, forging, welding, painting, finishing, and/or assembly operations.
Strong problem-solving skills related to production, tooling, machine malfunctions, and workflow issues.
Ability to coordinate effectively with Maintenance, QA, Engineering, Production Control, Scheduling, and Purchasing.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Experience supporting safety investigations, corrective actions, production planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ability to manage changing priorities, expedite hot orders, and redirect resources to meet production and shipping deadlines.
Physical Demands / Environmental Conditions
This position includes both office and shop floor responsibilities. Office duties may require long periods of sitting, telephone work, computer work, and regular interaction with others.
The role also requires moderate exposure to shop conditions, which may vary depending on the task assigned. Shop conditions may include noise, dust, fumes, vapors, solutions controlled to OSHA standards, and dirty or confined work areas. The position involves extensive standing and walking and may include indoor and occasional outdoor work.
