Position: WELDER II
Salary: $25.35 Per Hour
Department: Parks and Recreation/Parks
Location: 2700 6th Avenue South, Lake Worth
Hours: 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Monday - Friday
Other: SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Valid Florida Driver’s License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment. Must obtain a FL Class A CDL Permit and a FL Class B CDL with Air Brakes Endorsement within 180 days of appointment. Respiratory screen/chest x-ray and Hearing Loss Test required for selected candidate.
This is skilled work at the journey-level performing more difficult welds. This work requires the understanding of blueprints prior to starting a project, sourcing materials to be used in the project, measuring and cutting materials to specifications, welding materials using the correct materials to join the metals together, and checking the finished work product to make sure that it falls within the expected tolerances or as marked on specifications or blueprints. Operates vehicles in excess of 26,001/10,000 pounds, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Responsible for welding projects required to maintain County equipment, buildings, and facilities; directs and participates in the construction and repair of gates, grates, buildings, and installation of flag poles, and other items as necessary. Fabricates specialty parts for County equipment, vehicles, buildings/facilities. Performs related work and other duties as required. May be temporarily assigned to other sections within this Division to assist during slack periods or emergency situations in accordance with the Employee Disaster Response Program and the Intake Form completed upon hiring.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification, supplemented by completion of welding and general shop courses; minimum of four (4) years of welding experience in major elements of the trade.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
- Five (5) years of experience in Stick Welding/Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW),
- Five (5) years of experience in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding/Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) on aluminum,
- Five (5) years of experience in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding/Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on stainless steel, mild steel, and/or aluminum, and
- A valid FL Class A CDL License.
